step up to the plate(조치를 취하다)는 같은 의미로 take action, take responsibility for doing something을 사용하고, ‘그는 간이 콩알만 해서 사소한 일에도 나서지를 못한다’(He is so timid that he can’t step up to the plate even for a small matter)처럼 쓸 수 있다.

고용하다 employ, hire<-> Fire 해고하다, dismiss (해고하다의 격식차린 말)
